
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles during a joint operation in the Ota area of the state.
The suspects, 48-year-old Mohammed Usman, popularly known as ‘Mandela’, and 38-year-old Abiodun Ogunojukan, alias ‘Ilasa’, are alleged members of a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery and vehicle snatching across Ogun State and beyond.
According to the police, the recovered vehicles include a Toyota Corolla, a Toyota Venza stolen at gunpoint on April 26, 2026, at Ilese-Awo in Abeokuta, and a Honda Crosstour. Other items found during the operation were two live cartridges, foreign currencies, one So-Safe Corps uniform, an MP3 sound system, and a plasma television set.

The operation was carried out on May 10, 2026, by operatives of the Ifo and Sango divisions following credible intelligence. Police said they stormed a hideout in Adeleye Area, Itele, Ota, where the stolen vehicles were concealed. Usman was arrested at about 10:35 p.m. that day, while Ogunojukan was picked up the following day near Sango-Ota Under Bridge.
During interrogation, Ogunojukan confessed to the crimes and provided information that is helping police track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more stolen vehicles. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining the clampdown on criminal elements in the state.
