
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, over alleged money laundering involving more than N500 billion.
Abdullahi was reportedly arrested in Abuja on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and is currently in the custody of the anti-graft agency as investigations continue.

He was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the third Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria on October 24, 2023.
Before his appointment, Abdullahi served as Senior Technical Adviser to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji.
The embattled DG is also a chartered engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
