Arsenal moved a step closer to ending their long Premier League title drought with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday evening, in a match dominated by late drama and a decisive VAR intervention.
Leandro Trossard emerged as the hero for the Gunners, scoring the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute after a tense and closely contested encounter.
The Belgian forward calmly finished from close range following a well-worked attacking move, sending the Arsenal supporters into wild celebrations.
However, the match reached its peak in stoppage time when West Ham thought they had snatched a dramatic equaliser. Callum Wilson fired home from a corner in the 95th minute, sparking jubilation among the home fans. But the celebrations were short-lived.
After a lengthy VAR review, the goal was ruled out due to a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. Replays showed West Ham’s Pablo making contact with Raya, impeding his ability to claim the ball.
Referee Chris Kavanagh, after consulting the pitch side monitor, disallowed the goal a decision that proved decisive.
The VAR check, which lasted over four minutes, has since sparked widespread debate among players, pundits, and fans, with opinions divided over the consistency of such calls.
Earlier in the game, Raya had already played a crucial role, producing a series of impressive saves to deny West Ham, including a vital stop from a one-on-one situation that kept Arsenal in the contest.

With just two games remaining including a favourable home fixture the Gunners are now firmly in control of their destiny.
