A tragic road accident along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway has claimed the lives of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist following a collision involving a heavily loaded truck.
The incident occurred at the Iyana-Iba Flyover, inward the main gate of Lagos State University, according to a statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Preliminary reports indicate that the truck, allegedly moving at high speed from the Volkswagen axis toward Badagry, first struck and killed a pedestrian. Instead of stopping after the impact, the driver reportedly continued driving, escalating the situation.
In an attempt to stop the fleeing truck, a motorcyclist, accompanied by another individual, pursued the vehicle.
However, the situation turned even more tragic when the truck rammed into the motorcycle during the chase, killing the rider instantly. The second individual reportedly escaped unharmed.

LASTMA officials, alongside emergency responders, arrived promptly at the scene to manage the situation and evacuate the victims. The body of the motorcyclist, which was trapped under the truck, was recovered, while the pedestrian’s remains were later released to their family.
Authorities confirmed that the truck driver was arrested at the scene and handed over to security operatives for further investigation. The vehicles involved have also been taken into custody.
Reacting to the incident, LASTMA officials described it as a painful reminder of the dangers of reckless driving, particularly among heavy-duty vehicle operators.
They urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and speed limits to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
