At least 23 fighters have reportedly been killed following fresh clashes between Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.
The latest confrontation reportedly occurred around Chingolo in Bama Local Government Area, where the two rival terrorist groups engaged in prolonged exchanges of gunfire.
Counter-terrorism analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on X, stating that the fighting was linked to renewed hostilities between the two factions.
According to Makama, ISWAP fighters moved into the Chingolo axis, prompting Boko Haram elements already operating in the area to launch an attack.
The confrontation reportedly lasted over two days, with more than 23 fighters from both sides said to have been killed.

The latest violence is believed to be connected to the ongoing struggle between Boko Haram and ISWAP for territorial control and influence within the Sambisa Forest and surrounding areas.
Makama said security forces were monitoring the movements of both factions and gathering intelligence following the clashes.
He added that ongoing military operations targeting terrorist camps, logistics networks and hideouts were aimed at weakening the insurgents and restricting their freedom of movement.
Meanwhile, residents of communities around the Sambisa Forest have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security authorities.
The latest clash further highlights the continuing rivalry between Boko Haram and ISWAP, even as Nigerian security forces sustain operations against terrorist groups in the North-East.
