A 15-year-old boy, identified as Isah Muhammad, has drowned while swimming in a pond popularly known as Sterling Pond in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud.
According to the command, it received a distress call on Tuesday afternoon and immediately deployed personnel from the Takur Site Division to the scene.
Preliminary findings indicated that the teenager, a resident of Bokoto Quarters in Dutse, was swimming in the pond when the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.

The victim was rescued from the water and taken to the General Hospital in Dutse, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
Following medical confirmation, the body was released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Reacting to the incident, the Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family over the tragic loss.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and urged the family to find strength during the difficult period.
