
Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered dangerous weapons concealed in a school bag during an intelligence-driven operation in Ibadan.
The suspects were apprehended around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 3, by officers attached to the Oluyole Divisional Headquarters. The arrest took place during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Rhema Bridge axis in Oluyole area of Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the officers intercepted a Bajaj motorcycle carrying three individuals who appeared suspicious.
A thorough search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and an axe, both concealed inside a black school bag.
The suspects were immediately taken into custody, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits for further investigation.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects are allegedly affiliated with the notorious Aiye and Eiye cult groups. The police also disclosed that the suspects confessed to involvement in several violent crimes, including armed robbery.
The command stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities, as well as to track down other members of the network.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the officers for their alertness and professionalism, noting that their swift action helped prevent potential violent incidents.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing, enhancing patrol visibility, and sustaining strategic stop-and-search operations to curb criminal activities across the state.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
