The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a manhunt for an unidentified motorist who allegedly fled after knocking down a man in the Ketu area of Lagos.
The incident occurred over the weekend along the Ketu inward Ojota axis, where the motorist reportedly hit the victim and drove away, leaving him critically injured at the scene.
According to LASTMA, officers who responded to the incident found the victim alive but in critical condition. He had reportedly sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including severe fractures and a serious head injury.
The officers immediately secured the accident scene and controlled traffic to prevent further danger to the victim and other road users.
LASTMA also contacted the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), whose medical personnel arrived at the scene to assess the victim and provide emergency assistance.
Following the assessment, the medical team reportedly expressed concern over the extent of the victim’s injuries and recommended that he receive treatment at a facility equipped to handle serious trauma cases.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the alleged abandonment of the injured man by the motorist.
Bakare-Oki said motorists involved in crashes have a responsibility to stop, assess the situation and contact emergency responders when people are injured.
He urged eyewitnesses, motorists and members of the public with credible information about the fleeing driver to provide such information to the appropriate authorities.
The agency said information from the public could assist efforts to identify and apprehend the motorist involved in the incident.
