A 13-year-old boy, identified as Mubarak Mohammed, has died after allegedly pulling the trigger of a loaded Dane gun in Udubo village, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident occurred on Saturday after a 35-year-old hunter, identified as Suleiman Hamza, reportedly returned from a hunting expedition and left the loaded firearm inside his room before stepping out.
According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the teenager later entered the room and allegedly pulled the trigger of the gun, causing it to discharge and inflict fatal injuries on him.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday.
Habib said officers from the Gamawa Police Division were mobilised to the scene after receiving information about the incident. The victim was subsequently taken to the General Hospital, Gamawa, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
The police said photographs were taken before the remains were released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The hunter, Suleiman Hamza, was arrested in connection with the incident, while the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the police also reported that officers foiled an armed robbery attempt along Kajala Kere Road, where suspected hoodlums allegedly attacked residents and stole two motorcycles and mobile phones.
The suspects reportedly fled after sighting a combined team of police officers and vigilantes, abandoning the stolen motorcycles, which were recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, expressed sadness over the teenager’s death and warned firearm owners, particularly hunters, to ensure their weapons are securely stored and kept away from children.
