The Edo State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects allegedly linked to various criminal activities across the state, including kidnapping, murder, armed robbery and defilement.
The arrests were made within one week as part of intensified security operations conducted at different locations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed the development, saying the operations also resulted in the rescue of five kidnapped victims. According to him, the victims were found unharmed and subsequently reunited with their families.
Daaor said nine of the arrested suspects were allegedly involved in armed robbery, while seven were linked to suspected murder cases. Another suspect was arrested over an alleged case of defilement.
The commissioner further disclosed that nine of those arrested were members of a notorious 15-man gang allegedly terrorising Benin City and surrounding communities.
He said the gang members were apprehended at different locations within Benin City, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining members.
