A Lagos man identified as Basit has reportedly died after he was attacked by a mob following an alleged hit-and-run incident on Lagos Island, just weeks before his planned wedding.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night in the Patey area of Lagos Island.
According to residents, Basit, who had recently returned to Nigeria from abroad for his wedding, allegedly hit a man while driving near Freeman Street.
He was said to have driven away from the scene instead of stopping, prompting some residents to pursue and eventually catch up with him.
Witnesses alleged that the mob descended on him, hitting him with sticks, bottles and other dangerous objects, particularly around the head.

One resident, Afolabi Lawal, said Basit sustained serious head injuries during the attack and eventually became unconscious.
He reportedly died after the mob members fled the scene when they realised he was no longer responsive.
Basit’s wedding was reportedly scheduled to take place in about two weeks.
Meanwhile, a police source disclosed that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, while the deceased’s remains were deposited at a morgue.
The police are expected to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible for the fatal mob attack.
