The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested two suspected kidnappers with ₦34 million allegedly meant as ransom for the release of a kidnapped victim in Adamawa State.
The suspects, identified as 55-year-old Alhaji Jaye and 34-year-old Buba Bello, were arrested by NIS operatives on Sunday, September 6, 2026, while in possession of the cash.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed that the suspects admitted the money was intended as ransom payment for the release of a captive.
In a separate operation, the Adamawa State Command of the NIS also intercepted 17 undocumented migrants at a private residence in Rumde Baru, Yola South Local Government Area.

The migrants comprised 13 Cameroonian nationals—eight males and five females—and four male Chadian nationals.
The operation, according to the NIS, highlights a changing pattern in the accommodation of undocumented migrants in the state. Rather than staying predominantly in hotels, some are increasingly being housed in private residences, raising concerns for immigration authorities.
The Adamawa State NIS Command, led by Comptroller Sule Jega, said investigations into the two incidents are ongoing.
The Service reiterated its commitment to tackling irregular migration and supporting efforts to combat criminal activities across the state.
