NSCDC Arrests Suspected Critical Infrastructure Vandal in Kogi -

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kogi State Command, has arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of vandalising critical national assets at the Kogi State Project Cashew Aggregation Centre in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Adebayo Joshua, was arrested by NSCDC personnel from the Isanlu Division in collaboration with local vigilantes while allegedly vandalising facilities at the centre.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Aliyu Abdullahi, some of the items allegedly targeted by the suspect included electrical cables that had already been peeled off and an electrical control board.

The NSCDC said the arrest followed effective collaboration between its personnel and local vigilantes in the community.

During preliminary investigations, the suspect reportedly made a confessional statement and is currently assisting the Corps with further investigations ahead of possible prosecution.

While parading the suspect, the Kogi State Commandant, CC Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, commended the NSCDC personnel and local vigilantes for their vigilance and prompt intervention.

He urged residents, particularly youths, to provide security agencies with credible and timely information about suspicious activities within their communities.

The commandant stressed that Kogi State’s abundant mineral and agricultural resources make it important for residents to protect public and critical infrastructure, noting that safeguarding such assets is essential to economic development.

He further reiterated that the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure remains a major priority of the NSCDC, in line with the directive of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

The command assured residents that it would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to combat vandalism, theft and other criminal activities across the state.

The NSCDC also called for sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, vigilantes and members of the public, stressing that maintaining security is a collective responsibility.
