Residents of Tashar Mayanchi and more than ten surrounding communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State have been forced to flee their homes following a wave of sustained bandit attacks.
The assaults, which reportedly lasted for four consecutive days, have left several villages deserted as terrified residents seek safety in neighboring areas.
According to security analyst Bakatsine, who disclosed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, more than 40 individuals have been abducted and remain in captivity.
He noted that the persistent attacks have not only triggered mass displacement but also raised concerns over the growing insecurity in the region.

“Repeated bandit attacks forced residents to flee Tashar Mayanchi and over 10 nearby communities in Maru LGA, leaving once-thriving villages largely empty. Local sources confirm that more than 40 people are still being held captive after four days of attacks,” he stated.
Bakatsine further warned that the continued displacement of residents could embolden the bandits to extend their operations toward the Zamfara–Sokoto highway, potentially cutting off affected communities and worsening the security situation.
He questioned the pace of intervention, asking, “How many more rural communities must be emptied before meaningful security reaches them?”
The incident adds to the growing list of security challenges in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, where communities continue to grapple with recurring attacks, abductions, and displacement.
