A woman identified as Shobowale Balikis has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle alcohol into the Ibara Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Nigerian Correctional Service said Balikis was intercepted by correctional officers at about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, while allegedly trying to take the substance into the facility for an inmate.
According to the Ogun State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Odukoya, the alcohol, identified as Ethano, was concealed inside a bottled-water pack and disguised as drinking water.

Officials reportedly detected the substance during screening before it could reach the inmates. Balikis was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Correctional Service reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward the smuggling of contraband into custodial facilities, stressing its commitment to maintaining security, discipline and order.
