Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has explained why she no longer attends Sunday church services in person, saying repeated media attention and constant photography during worship sessions have made the experience uncomfortable for her.
In a video shared via her Snapchat account on Sunday, the actress was seen preparing breakfast and getting her children ready for church before addressing her current approach to worship.
According to her, she now prefers to participate in services online rather than physically attending church gatherings.
She said she often becomes the focus of attention whenever she appears in church, which she believes distracts from the purpose of worship.

“Don’t ask if I am going to church. I am not going to church. Anytime I go to church, it is me that they take picture of. I will join online,” she said in the video.
Akindele, who is associated with the Celestial Church of Christ, hinted that the presence of cameras and constant attention from media personnel and fellow worshippers has made it difficult for her to worship peacefully.
Her statement quickly sparked reactions on social media, with many users debating whether celebrities should be expected to cope with public attention even in religious spaces.
Some users criticised media teams for routinely filming or photographing well-known personalities during services, arguing that it can disrupt genuine worship.
Others, however, felt that public figures should adapt to such attention as part of their status.
A section of commenters supported her decision, saying that constant recording of celebrities in church environments can be distracting and intrusive.
Despite stepping back from in-person attendance, Akindele maintained that she remains committed to her faith and will continue to participate in services virtually.
