Suspected vandals have attacked Government Unity School in Ringim, Jigawa State, overpowering security guards and making away with armoured cables connected to the school’s transformer.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 30, 2026, left the school without electricity and raised fresh concerns over the safety of public infrastructure in the state.
According to reports, more than 10 armed suspects invaded the school premises at about 2 a.m., subdued three security guards stationed at different points, and vandalised approximately 12 metres of 75mm² armoured cable before fleeing the scene.
The stolen cable is estimated to be worth between ₦900,000 and ₦1.05 million.

Security operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ringim responded swiftly after receiving a distress call. Evidence was recovered at the scene as investigations commenced to track down the perpetrators.
The Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC condemned the attack, describing it as a serious assault on critical national infrastructure. He has ordered an intensive manhunt to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Authorities have urged security personnel across schools and public institutions to remain vigilant, while also calling on residents to report any suspicious movements to the nearest security agency.
The incident adds to a growing pattern of vandalism targeting public assets in Jigawa State, prompting renewed calls for community collaboration in safeguarding government facilities.
