
At least seven people have lost their lives and 53 others sustained injuries after a powerful windstorm swept through several communities in Jigawa State.
According to the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the disaster affected about 5,403 households across 120 communities in 13 local government areas.
The agency said Dutse Local Government Area recorded four deaths, while one person each died in Miga, Ringim, and Sule Tankarkar local government areas.

The windstorm also caused widespread destruction, damaging more than 47 primary and secondary schools, three hospitals, two police stations, hundreds of homes, and other public and private property.
State officials said emergency funds have been approved to support relief efforts, while affected residents are expected to receive food, shelter materials, and other essential assistance.
The government has also appealed to development partners, humanitarian organisations, and members of the public to support ongoing efforts to provide relief and help affected communities recover from the disaster.
