Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued a kidnapped senior military officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ofor Amobi, alongside a civilian, Mr. Ikechukwu Onwuanra, following a 10-day intensive search-and-rescue operation in Enugu State.
According to an official military report released on Saturday in Abuja, the victims were freed in the early hours of Friday after sustained pressure was mounted on their abductors.
The operation was carried out by troops under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA. The team comprised personnel from the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion (Reinforced), the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and the 197 Special Forces Battalion.
The troops, led by the Commander of the 82 Division Garrison, conducted coordinated search missions across forests and communities in Inyi, Awlaw, and Akpugo-Eze within Oji River Local Government Area.

Acting on credible intelligence provided by the Divisional Police Officer of Inyi Division around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, the troops swiftly launched a targeted patrol. The victims were eventually found abandoned at the edge of a forest in Inyi.
Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately evacuated to the 82 Division Medical Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and undergoing medical evaluation.
Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had been blindfolded and moved to an unknown location before being abandoned along the Enugu-Anambra border.
The military noted that the relentless pressure from security forces restricted the kidnappers’ movements, ultimately forcing them to abandon their captives.
Further details surrounding the operation are expected to be released in due course.
