A lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Chief Elijah Ola Olorunsuwa, was reportedly arrested at his residence in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Olorunsuwa was said to have been taken away around 5:00 a.m. by about eight police officers who arrived at his home in a black Hilux vehicle.
Sources familiar with the incident alleged that the lecturer was subsequently taken towards Kogi State, although the specific offence linked to his arrest was not immediately disclosed.
A Kogi State public commentator and youth leader, Monday Job Sesere, confirmed the reported arrest and alleged that it was ordered by the state Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara.
However, the claim could not be independently verified, and it was unclear whether Olorunsuwa was being investigated for any offence.
Olorunsuwa is a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ilorin, with academic interests covering elections, political parties, federalism, legislative governance and Nigerian politics.
He also serves as the National Publicity Secretary of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, a position he assumed in August 2024.

The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she was not aware of the reported arrest.
She, however, stated that if the arrest occurred, officers from Kogi State would have followed the required procedures for an interstate arrest and directed inquiries to the Kogi State Police Command.
Efforts to contact the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, were unsuccessful.
As of September 16, 2026, it was not clear where Olorunsuwa had been taken or whether any formal charge had been filed against him.
