The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Sani Dikko, for allegedly conspiring with two others to kidnap his grandfather and collect N3 million ransom.
Dikko was arrested alongside Kabir Sani and Salisu Bello, both aged 22, by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit in Marabar Shema Village, Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested on September 12, 2026, at about 8:23pm during a confidence-building patrol based on credible intelligence.

Preliminary investigation reportedly showed that Dikko allegedly worked with the other suspects to abduct his grandfather, identified as Alhaji Lawal, about three weeks earlier.
The victim was said to have spent 16 days in captivity before he was released after a N3 million ransom was paid.
The police said Dikko confessed to his alleged involvement in the abduction, while investigations were ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ activities and identify other members of their alleged criminal network.
Meanwhile, police operatives have rescued two women who were abducted by bandits during an attack on Sha’iskawa Fulani Village in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims, identified as 45-year-old Assubi Rabe and 27-year-old Rabi Isyaku, were reportedly abducted around 12:45am on September 14 by about eight armed bandits.
Following a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Kankia mobilised police operatives to the area. The team reportedly engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush.
The police subsequently rescued both women unhurt.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved and urged residents to continue providing timely information to assist security agencies in tackling kidnapping and banditry across the state.
