
Two suspected kidnappers were killed while two abducted victims were rescued during a security operation in Imo State.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Ani Iniedu, the operation was launched after security agencies received intelligence about the location where the victims were being held.
Police operatives, working alongside local vigilantes, reportedly mobilised to a forest hideout to rescue the victims. However, the team came under attack from the suspected kidnappers, leading to a fierce gun battle.
During the exchange of gunfire, two of the suspects were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The police also confirmed that the two kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed during the operation.

Sadly, a member of the local vigilante group who participated in the rescue mission sustained a gunshot injury and later died at the hospital.
Authorities said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Owerri for further investigation.
The police have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and strengthen security across the state.
