Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have neutralized a suspected gang kingpin allegedly linked to the gruesome killing of an Imo State monarch and five others.
The suspect, identified as Ojiogu Elumah Martin, popularly known as “Acid,” was killed during a gun battle with police operatives in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Ani Iniedu, the operation was carried out by the Special Tactics Squad in collaboration with the Force Intelligence Department following credible intelligence.
Martin was reportedly a key figure and leader of a criminal syndicate responsible for the April 10, 2026 attack that claimed the lives of Eze Barrister Paulinus Ekwueme, the Ochia I of Ochia Kingdom, and five others. The victims were ambushed along the Asa/Awara Road while returning to Owerri.

Police disclosed that between August 2 and August 6, a series of targeted operations were conducted against members of the syndicate. These efforts led operatives to the suspect’s hideout in the early hours of August 6.
Upon confrontation, the suspect engaged officers in a fierce gun duel, sustaining fatal injuries in the process.
Security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, and 56 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition from the scene.
The police further confirmed that four suspects had earlier been arrested in connection with the incident, while two others were killed during previous encounters.
The Force assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and fully unravel the network behind the deadly attack.
The Nigeria Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice is served and maintaining security across the region.
