A fire outbreak on Sunday destroyed six shops at the Aswani Mechanic Village in the Isolo area of Lagos State.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the incident occurred at about 12:26 p.m. Emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving reports of the fire.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.
He explained that six shops were affected by the incident, while no vehicles were damaged and no casualties were recorded.
All traders and artisans within the affected area were safely evacuated before the fire spread further.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted that the quick intervention of firefighters and emergency officials helped contain the blaze and prevented it from extending to nearby workshops and other properties.
He added that recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing to prevent the fire from reigniting, while the affected area had been secured to allow for proper damage assessment.
The Lagos State Government also urged market operators and artisans to comply with electrical safety regulations by avoiding overloaded circuits and ensuring that fire extinguishers are readily available and properly maintained.
This latest incident comes barely a day after emergency responders successfully contained another fire outbreak at a hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, without any casualties.
