Two suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly surrendered to Nigerian troops in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Jidda Modu and 21-year-old Kaka Kawu, reportedly surrendered to troops of Headquarters Sector 3 deployed at Charlie 4 in Monguno on the evening of September 1.
According to security reports, the two men handed over two AK-47 rifles, eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and two magazines.
Other items reportedly recovered from them included five mobile phones, a pair of earbuds, a power bank, a bank ATM card, a memory card, a USB cable, two head warmers and a bag.

Preliminary findings indicated that the two suspects were part of a larger group of about 10 ISWAP members who allegedly left their camp in the Arinna Chiki area with plans to surrender to the authorities.
The suspects and the recovered items have since been taken into military custody for further investigation and necessary action.
The development comes as Nigerian troops continue operations against terrorist groups in the North-East under Operation HADIN KAI, with sustained military pressure believed to be encouraging some insurgents to abandon their camps and surrender.
