One person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued after a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State.
Several other people are feared trapped beneath the rubble as emergency responders continue search and rescue operations.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident on Friday, October 23, 2026, stating that the building collapsed in the early hours of the day.
According to the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA received a distress call at about 12:10 a.m. and immediately activated its Cobra Response Team from the Onipanu Base. The team arrived at the scene two minutes later and commenced rescue operations.
During the operation, responders reportedly heard groaning sounds beneath the debris, raising hopes that some of those trapped might still be alive. An excavator was subsequently deployed to help remove the rubble and access areas where victims were suspected to be trapped.
