Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended a suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram collaborator accused of attempting to lure security operatives into a deadly ambush in Gwoza, Borno State.
According to an operational report released on Monday in Abuja, the suspect was arrested on Friday at the Government Secondary School Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Gwoza.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual was allegedly working closely with terrorist elements operating within the Mandara Mountains.
His mission, authorities said, was to infiltrate local security networks by persuading members of the Hybrid Forces to defect and rejoin insurgent groups.
Security sources disclosed that the plan involved deceiving the personnel into entering terrorist-controlled areas, where they would be ambushed, killed, and stripped of their weapons.
Further findings indicated that the suspect had previously engaged in discussions with a Boko Haram commander active in the mountainous region prior to his arrest.
