Nigerian troops under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have launched a decisive offensive against terrorists and bandits in Katsina State, destroying multiple hideouts and logistics bases in a renewed push to restore security in the region.
The operation, codenamed Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, began on June 14, 2026, following the tragic death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was abducted alongside his wife by suspected terrorists in Matazu Local Government Area.
According to military authorities, the offensive is aimed at tracking down those responsible for the abduction, dismantling criminal networks, and re-establishing peace across affected communities.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops have carried out coordinated operations including aggressive fighting patrols, intelligence-driven raids, cordon-and-search missions, and clearance exercises across identified terrorist enclaves.
Significant breakthroughs were recorded in the Dikkawa Hills and surrounding communities, where several terrorist hideouts and support structures were uncovered and destroyed.

Additional clearance operations in Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa further weakened the operational capacity of the criminal groups.
The military emphasized that the destruction of logistics bases and life-support structures has severely disrupted the activities of terrorists, limiting their ability to regroup and launch attacks.
The operation is being conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders, whose support has been described as critical to ongoing success.
