Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued 48 abducted villagers following a coordinated military operation in Zamfara State.
The rescue mission was launched in the early hours of Saturday after armed terrorists reportedly invaded Magami village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, abducting several residents.
According to a statement released by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the attackers—numbering dozens—stormed the community on about 40 motorcycles, rounding up villagers with the intention of taking them into the bush.
Acting swiftly on a distress call, troops deployed to the area engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle upon arrival. The intense confrontation forced the attackers to flee, abandoning all captives.
“The prompt response of the troops led to the successful rescue of all 48 kidnapped civilians,” the statement noted.

Despite the success of the operation, the attack claimed the life of one civilian, while two others sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victims were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Kaura Namoda, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Following the rescue, troops carried out aggressive patrols across the area to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and security across the North-West region.
Residents were also urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against criminal elements.
Zamfara State remains one of the hardest-hit regions in Nigeria’s North-West, with frequent incidents of banditry, mass abductions, and attacks on rural communities despite intensified military efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
