Tragedy has struck Tarai community in Jol district of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, following the killing of three brothers who were on vigilante duty.
The victims, identified as Dachung Danjuma (51), Victor Danjuma (37), and Nyam Danjuma (35), were reportedly attacked by suspected gunmen late Tuesday night while conducting a routine patrol to safeguard their community.
According to local sources, the assailants stormed the area under the cover of darkness at about 10:47 p.m., opening fire on the vigilantes. The three brothers, who were said to be biological siblings, died on the spot.
A resident, Lyop Bitrus, disclosed that the victims were carrying out their responsibility of protecting lives and property when they were ambushed.

He described the incident as a painful loss, noting that the men paid the ultimate price while defending their community.
The attack has left residents devastated, particularly the family of Victor Danjuma, who is survived by his wife and five children. It was gathered that his family had temporarily fled due to earlier insecurity in a neighboring community and were preparing to return before the unfortunate incident occurred.
The spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the killings and condemned the attack. He expressed concern over the continued wave of violence in Riyom and surrounding areas, despite repeated appeals for improved security.
Tengwong called on security agencies to intensify efforts in protecting vulnerable communities and ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and brought to justice.
As of the time of this report, security authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
