Gunmen have reportedly killed two security operatives during an ambush on a joint patrol team in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida Road, where a combined team of security personnel had mounted a temporary checkpoint.
According to security sources, the team was returning to their respective duty posts when two members failed to return, prompting an immediate search operation. Their bodies were later discovered during a clearance exercise.
The victims were identified as Inspector John Zakaria of the Nigeria Police Force and Lance Corporal Mohammed Musa of the Nigerian Air Force.

Reports indicate that the attackers also made away with the service weapons of the deceased officers. However, the motorcycle used by the operatives was recovered at the scene.
Preliminary findings suggest that the ambush took place near an area previously occupied by suspected herders, who had reportedly vacated the location before security reinforcements arrived. The area is also said to be close to a Berom community.
Following the attack, security forces have launched cordon-and-search operations across surrounding communities in a bid to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons.
Investigations are ongoing as military and other security agencies intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
