Residents of Niger State have taken to the streets to protest the continued captivity of hundreds of people abducted by gunmen about a month ago.
The protesters, from Dekara and neighbouring communities in Borgu Local Government Area, gathered at the local government headquarters in New Bussa, demanding urgent action to secure the release of the victims
About 600 people, mostly women, children and elderly persons, were reportedly abducted during attacks on communities in the Borgu area on August 21.
The development has heightened concerns over insecurity in the state, as the victims remain unaccounted for weeks after the incident.

The Niger State Government said security agencies had been mobilised for the rescue operation, but the captives have yet to be located.
Niger State Commissioner for Information, Obed Nuhu Nana, said the government was making efforts to rescue the abducted residents.
Residents continue to demand swift action and the safe return of their loved ones.
