A Lagos tenant, Medinat Oyeleke, has accused lawyer Jide Zaid of failing to deliver agreed legal services after allegedly paying him N345,000 to handle complaints involving harassment, burglary, property damage and other disputes at her residence.
Oyeleke said she hired Zaid in October 2025 after a series of incidents at her compound. According to her, the lawyer prepared petitions and letters, but some of the documents were allegedly not properly sealed, leaving her dissatisfied with his handling of the matter.
She also alleged that her apartment was burgled while she was away, with valuables including a gas cylinder and gold jewellery stolen. She further claimed that damage to her door and a burst pipe caused by poor renovation work resulted in additional losses.
The tenant said she eventually reported the lawyer to the Nigerian Bar Association and requested a refund of the N345,000 she paid.

However, Zaid denied the allegations, describing them as false and an attempt to blackmail him. He maintained that he carried out the assignments for which he was paid and said he had documents to prove the work done.
The lawyer explained that he prepared letters to tenants and the caretaker and also prepared a petition to the police following Oyeleke’s instructions. He said the petition was later redirected to another police command because of jurisdictional issues.
Zaid also denied allegations that he sought sexual favours from the tenant, challenging her to provide evidence of the claim.
Both parties have maintained their positions, with Oyeleke insisting that the agreed legal services were not delivered, while Zaid maintains that he fulfilled his professional obligations.
The competing allegations could not be independently verified.
