The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has arrested three men over the alleged theft and sale of electrical cables kept temporarily during road construction in Agbona Village, Iwo.
The suspects were identified as 60-year-old Taliatu Olunlade, his 25-year-old son, Wasiu Olunlade, and 22-year-old Ganiyu Ayomide.
They were reportedly arrested on September 4 by NSCDC operatives from the Agbona Division following an investigation into the disappearance of the cables.
The Osun State Commandant, Toma Mathew Enya, disclosed the development during a press briefing in Osogbo on Monday.
According to Enya, the cables had been removed in November 2025 by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company in collaboration with community leaders to allow road construction work to proceed. They were subsequently packaged and stored near Taliatu Olunlade’s residence for safekeeping.
However, the cables allegedly began disappearing gradually several months later, prompting the NSCDC to launch an investigation.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects allegedly removed the cables in stages and sold them to a scrap dealer and scavenger identified as Aminu, popularly known as “Bollar,” who is currently at large.

The Commandant said the suspects allegedly confessed to selling the stolen cables to Aminu on two occasions for a total of ₦100,000.
Enya said efforts were ongoing to arrest the suspected buyer, adding that the investigation would continue before the suspects are charged to court.
He warned individuals involved in the theft, vandalism or illegal trading of critical infrastructure to desist, stressing that the NSCDC would intensify surveillance and enforcement across the state.
