Operatives of the Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force have intercepted four commercial buses transporting suspected illegal miners from Zamfara State to Gangtu village in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, carried out over the weekend, was led by Superintendent of Police Jamu Emmanuel Lyon following credible intelligence reports about the movement of individuals planning to engage in unlawful mining activities within the state.
According to the task force, the suspects were intercepted while en route to the alleged mining site. They were apprehended without resistance during the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals had traveled from Zamfara State with the intention of carrying out illegal mining operations in Taraba, in violation of Nigeria’s mining laws and regulations.
Confirming the development, SP Jamu Emmanuel Lyon stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to the Taraba State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
He reiterated the task force’s commitment to combating illegal mining activities across Taraba State, emphasizing that efforts to dismantle such networks will be sustained.
The task force also urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible information that could aid in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in illegal mining.
