Tension has escalated at Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) in Bauchi State after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Bauchi Axis, issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the university management over worsening insecurity affecting students.
The student body warned that it would shut down academic activities if urgent and visible measures are not taken to address the rising wave of criminal attacks within and around the institution.
In a strongly worded statement signed by NANS JCC Executive Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Musa, the association also passed a vote of no confidence on the university’s vice-chancellor and management, accusing them of failing to protect students and ensure a safe learning environment.

According to NANS, the crisis worsened following a recent violent attack on a female student living off-campus, who was stabbed by suspected phone snatchers, resulting in the loss of two fingers.
The group said the university must take immediate responsibility for her medical care and welfare.
The statement also referenced another incident on Sunday night, April 26, 2026, in which a male student was reportedly attacked by armed robbers and sustained injuries before receiving hospital treatment.
Describing the campus environment as unsafe, the students’ association said repeated criminal incidents have made both teaching and learning difficult.
It criticized the management’s directive asking off-campus students to relocate to campus, calling it unrealistic due to inadequate accommodation.
NANS warned that if the university fails to act within the 72-hour deadline, it would escalate actions, including relocating its secretariat to the campus and mobilizing for a possible shutdown of academic activities.
The association emphasized that any suspension of its planned action would only occur if there is clear evidence of improved security and concrete steps to protect students across SAZU and its surroundings.
