Nollywood actor Stan Nze has spoken out against what he called a worrying decline in moral values among Nigerians, following reports that several phones were stolen during the service of songs held for late actor Alexx Ekubo.
Nze, who hosted the emotional event in memory of his colleague and friend, said the theft overshadowed a gathering meant to celebrate Ekubo’s life.
According to him, more than five phones went missing during the service, including those of fellow actors BamBam and Susan Peters.
“My heart is really full. There’s so much I want to address,” Nze said. “I hosted my dear brother’s service of song last night. It was one of the hardest things to do. At that service, over five phones went missing. I know at least two people personally, BamBam and Susan Peters.”
He questioned how anyone could attend a mourning event and still choose to steal from fellow attendees. “How do you come to a place where people are mourning and you steal from them?” he asked.

Nze argued that Nigeria’s problem goes beyond leadership, urging citizens to take personal responsibility. “Even if we chase everybody in government out, who will lead? Who will do the job? The government is not our problem. How is your own personal life? You’re saying the government is bad, but you’re wicked,” he said.
The actor called on Nigerians to practice kindness, honesty, empathy, and accountability in their daily lives. He stressed that true religion is shown through caring for people and speaking up for the vulnerable.
“You’re not kind with your words, with giving, with sympathy. This is the height of it, people mourning, and you add more pain by stealing from them. May God forgive us,” he added.
Nze ended with a call for every Nigerian to start doing the right thing within their own circles and to speak out against injustice wherever they see it.
