Nollywood actress Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as Bambam, and actress Susan Peters have reported that their phones were stolen during the service of songs held for late actor Alex Ekubo in Lagos.
The event took place on Wednesday at the Monarch Event Centre, where colleagues, friends, and fans gathered to honour Ekubo ahead of his burial next week. The gathering drew several Nigerian dignitaries, movie stars, and social media personalities.
Hours after the service, Bambam took to Instagram to alert the public that her phone had been taken from her bag. She said she tracked the device immediately and found its last known location on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos Island. “It has not moved from there. Now it just says Lagos Island. It’s probably sold or dismantled,” she wrote.

Susan Peters also confirmed losing her iPhone 16 Pro Max at the same venue. In a post on Instagram, she explained that the phone uses an eSIM with her US line, making it unreachable. She described the incident as distressing given the solemn nature of the occasion.
“How do people come to such an emotional event and still have the guts to steal? Even after all Papa Jerry preached yesterday? Make una fear God, please return my phone I beg,” Peters pleaded. She added that the phone’s screensaver carries her picture and offered a reward to anyone who finds it.
The thefts have sparked reactions online, with many questioning how attendees could target others during a mourning event. The incident has also reignited conversations about security and personal responsibility at public gatherings in Nigeria.
