A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged pedestrian has been killed after a speeding hit-and-run driver struck him along the Ojoo–Iwo Road Expressway in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The fatal accident occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday at Orogun Bus Stop while the victim was attempting to cross the busy expressway.
Eyewitnesses said the driver failed to stop after the collision, leaving the victim on the road. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
One witness, identified simply as Iya Kadijat, said she was waiting for a commercial vehicle when she heard a loud impact and saw the victim lying motionless.
“I was waiting to board a vehicle when I suddenly heard a loud noise. The driver did not stop after hitting the man, and he died instantly. I was shocked and left the scene shortly afterwards,” she said.
Another resident, who declined to be identified, said many shops in the area had already closed due to the weather, making it difficult to immediately identify the deceased.

According to the resident, inquiries within the community have not revealed the victim’s identity. The witness appealed to the authorities to evacuate the body and urged anyone with a missing male relative in the Orogun or Agbowo area to check nearby hospital morgues.
The spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the matter would be communicated to the appropriate authorities to ensure the body was evacuated.
The tragic incident has renewed concerns over speeding and hit-and-run crashes along the Ojoo–Iwo Road corridor, with residents calling for stricter traffic enforcement and improved safety measures to protect pedestrians.
