A middle-aged man, identified as Andrawus James, has been arrested in Adamawa State over allegations that he planned to abduct and sell his 18-year-old niece for N7 million.
James, a resident of Bai village in Yadim District of Fufure Local Government Area, was said to have allegedly reached an agreement with a prospective buyer before luring the young woman, identified as Fatima, away from her family.
The matter was brought before Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, where the defendant was reportedly arraigned and remanded in a correctional facility.
According to the prosecution, the incident was reported to the police on August 16, 2026, by a resident of New Market in Ganye Local Government Area.

Investigators were told that James had allegedly approached the complainant and expressed his intention to become wealthy by selling his niece. The two reportedly discussed the proposed N7 million deal and arrangements for handing the teenager over to the supposed buyer.
James allegedly contacted Fatima, who lives with her parents in Damare Ward, Yola South Local Government Area, and told her he had secured a job opportunity for her in Abuja. He reportedly warned her not to disclose the arrangement to her parents.
However, instead of taking her to Abuja, James allegedly transported her to Ganye, where he intended to hand her over to another person.
Security operatives were alerted to the alleged plan, leading to his arrest upon arrival in Ganye.
The presiding magistrate, Dorcas Marvin, ordered that the defendant be remanded while the case was adjourned pending legal advice from the Adamawa State Department of Public Prosecution.
