Six relatives of fighters belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, have surrendered to Nigerian military personnel in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The individuals reportedly surrendered on September 28, 2026, to troops of Operation HADIN KAI operating in the area.
According to counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama, preliminary investigations indicated that the six people escaped from a terrorist enclave in Bulakambula, Bama Local Government Area.
Following their surrender, the individuals were handed over to representatives of the Grassroots Initiative for Strengthening Community Resilience, GISCOR, at its Pulka office for further assistance and processing.
In a related operation, troops also intercepted and rescued a female minor identified as a family member of an ISWAP fighter at Hudugum village along the Gwoza-Limankara road.

Makama said preliminary findings showed that the girl had escaped from a terrorist enclave in Waa, located in the Mandara Mountains.
The rescued minor was subsequently taken to the Gwoza Internally Displaced Persons camp, where she was handed over to the authorities for appropriate care and further processing.
The developments come amid continued military operations against terrorist groups in the Gwoza axis, with more individuals linked to insurgents reportedly leaving their enclaves and seeking safety in areas controlled by security forces.
