ILORIN, Kwara State — Six members of a family, including two children, have been rescued alive after a three-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, Kwara State, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque, in the Ile Oyan Masalasi Gogoro area of the state capital.
The collapsed structure reportedly trapped several members of a family inside the building, prompting an immediate rescue operation by emergency responders and residents in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the father of the family and one of the children were among the first victims rescued from the rubble.
Further rescue efforts led to the evacuation of the mother and another child, while additional victims were subsequently brought out alive.

The mother was taken to a hospital for medical attention, while the other rescued family members were reportedly alive and receiving assistance.
Fire Service personnel and community members continued working at the scene as an excavator was deployed to carefully remove debris and gain access to sections of the collapsed building where more victims could potentially be trapped.
As of about 10:18 a.m., rescue operations were still ongoing, although the exact number of people who may remain trapped under the rubble was not immediately known.
The cause of the building collapse had not been officially established at the time of filing this report.
Emergency responders are continuing efforts to safely evacuate anyone still trapped while preventing further collapse of the structure.
