Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says Arsenal will not defend their Premier League title next season and could drop to fourth place.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Scholes said Mikel Arteta’s side lacks the consistency needed to dominate again. He predicted that Liverpool and Manchester United would be the main challengers under new circumstances.
“I think Manchester United will have a chance under Michael Carrick if they do some good business,” Scholes said. “Liverpool, I expect them to go again. Man City have a good time, but they will have a new manager.”

The former England international questioned the expectation that Arsenal would continue to dominate the league. “People are expecting Arsenal to go and dominate. I just don’t see that. I’m struggling to see a brilliant team that will go on and dominate,” he said.
Scholes added that it would not be a surprise if Arsenal finished third or fourth next season.
Arsenal won the Premier League title in the 2025/26 campaign and will enter the new season as defending champions. Michael Carrick was appointed Manchester United manager earlier this year.
