Bukayo Saka has declared that Arsenal’s critics are “not laughing anymore” after the club secured their first English Premier League title in over two decades.
The North London side clinched the title following a 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Bournemouth, a result that left Arsenal with an unassailable lead at the top of the table heading into the final round of matches.
Players and staff gathered at the club’s London Colney training ground to watch the decisive match, celebrating wildly as confirmation of their triumph came through. Thousands of fans also flooded the Emirates Stadium, lighting flares and fireworks to mark the historic moment.
Speaking in celebratory footage shared online, Saka reflected on years of criticism directed at the team, particularly accusations of “bottling” their title chances in previous seasons.
“For 22 years, there was laughing and joking,” Saka said. “But they’re not laughing anymore. This is going to shine bright.”
Arsenal, who finished as runners-up in the past three seasons, showed resilience in the final stretch of the campaign.
After a crucial loss to City in April raised doubts about their title credentials, the Gunners responded emphatically by winning their remaining matches without conceding a goal.
Manager Mikel Arteta, who took charge of the club in 2019 during a difficult period, has been widely praised for transforming the team into champions.
