The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed a viral social media allegation accusing the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, of grabbing or facilitating the takeover of land belonging to residents of Victory Estate, Rumuosi, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, the allegation was described as false and misleading.
According to the police, the matter began in March 2025 after an application was made on behalf of Kirigust Global Resources Nig. Ltd. requesting police protection for a court bailiff to execute a judgment in a land-related case.
The command said the judgment was verified by the Customary Court, Choba, which confirmed that it was valid and that there was no pending appeal or stay of execution.
Police personnel were subsequently deployed on April 7 and 8, 2025, strictly to provide security for the court bailiff. The command said officers were specifically instructed not to participate in the execution.
However, residents later objected, arguing that the judgment concerned land in Rumuagholu Community and did not cover their property in Victory Estate, Rumuosi.

The police said CP Adepoju immediately halted the execution and ordered an investigation into the conflicting claims.
The investigation, according to the command, found that the judgment was valid but did not extend to Victory Estate. The Surveyor-General of Rivers State reportedly confirmed that the land covered by the judgment was within Rumuagholu Community.
The police further disclosed that a nine-count charge had been filed before the Rivers State High Court against some individuals allegedly connected to the wrongful execution.
The command maintained that CP Adepoju did not acquire, take possession of or facilitate the grabbing of any land belonging to Victory Estate residents, stating that his involvement was limited to providing security for the court bailiff after the judgment had been verified.
The police also warned officers against participating in land-related matters without proper authorisation and legal backing, urging members of the public to report any officer involved in unauthorised land activities.
