A civil society group, Socialist Labour, has called for immediate daily peaceful mass protests across Nigeria following the abduction of teachers and students in Oyo State and the brutal killing of a kidnapped educator.
The group specifically urged the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), both at the national and Oyo State levels, to mobilise sustained protests to pressure authorities into rescuing victims still held captive in Oriire Local Government Area.
The call comes amid growing anger over the killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a Mathematics teacher who was reportedly beheaded by bandits after being abducted during coordinated attacks on three schools in the area.
In a statement issued by its General Secretary, Comrade Biodun Olamosu, Socialist Labour condemned the deteriorating security situation, describing it as a reflection of government failure and neglect of ordinary citizens.
According to the group, about 50 individuals, including teachers and students, were abducted from schools in Esinele, Alawusa, and Yewota communities earlier in May.
The continued captivity of many victims, alongside the killing of Oyedokun, has intensified concerns about the safety of educational institutions.

The organisation described the attacks as “barbaric” and accused the political class of prioritising personal interests over the safety and welfare of citizens.
“It is unacceptable that teachers, students, and communities live in constant fear while those in power continue to offer empty promises,” the statement read.
Socialist Labour also linked the worsening insecurity to broader economic challenges, arguing that rising hardship has contributed to increased violence across the country.
The group called on labour unions, civil society organisations, and youth groups to unite in demanding accountability and improved security measures, particularly in schools.
It further urged the government to implement stronger welfare policies, provide adequate security protection, and ensure insurance coverage for teachers and education workers nationwide.
Extending condolences to the family of the slain teacher, the group reaffirmed its commitment to supporting any peaceful mass action aimed at safeguarding the lives and rights of Nigerians.
The incident adds to a growing list of attacks on schools in Nigeria, raising urgent questions about the safety of students and educators across the country.
