Prominent Anambra businessman and politician, Okey Ezeibe, reportedly died inside a hotel room in Imo State on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, while he was in the state for a scheduled political meeting.
Ezeibe was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Motors, also known as Legacy Urban Peony Services Limited. He also previously served as President and member of the Board of Trustees of the Balogun Business Association in Lagos.
Reports said Ezeibe travelled to Imo State to meet the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in the state, Chief Martins Agbaso.
The meeting was initially expected to take place over dinner on Monday, but Agbaso reportedly travelled to Delta State for another engagement. The two men were then said to have agreed to meet the following morning over breakfast.
Concern reportedly arose on Tuesday when Ezeibe failed to leave his hotel room at the agreed time.
His associates were said to have knocked on the door but received no response. They subsequently forced the door open and reportedly found the businessman dead inside the room.

The cause of his death had not been officially established at the time of the report. However, information cited by TheNiche suggested that he may have suffered a heart attack.
Ezeibe was also known for his long-standing relationship with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate.
In May 2026, Atiku travelled to Marrakech, Morocco, where he chaired the wedding ceremony of Ezeibe’s son, Muna Ezeibe, and Cherina, the daughter of former Burkina Faso Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo.
Atiku had described his attendance at the wedding as an honour linked to his longstanding friendship with Ezeibe, which he said had lasted for more than 45 years.
Ezeibe was also involved in political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. Despite his reported relationship with Atiku, he was said to have been supporting the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, ahead of the election.
His death has drawn attention because of the circumstances surrounding his stay in Imo State and the planned meeting with the NDC governorship candidate.
