
Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have foiled a cattle rustling attempt and recovered six cows in the Bakal area of Bauchi metropolis.
The operation followed credible intelligence received on June 23, 2026, that suspected rustlers were moving the animals toward a riverbank through the Goskaram axis.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, the information came through the ‘A’ Division Police Headquarters in Township, Bauchi.
Acting on the tip-off, police officers, working with local vigilantes and led by the Divisional Police Officer, moved in and pursued the suspects.

The team intercepted the rustlers and recovered the six cows, while the suspects fled the scene. The livestock have been taken into police custody for identification as efforts continue to trace the rightful owners.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a discreet investigation and a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. He commended the officers and vigilante members for their swift response and professionalism.
Aliyu urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information to help prevent and detect crime.
The command reiterated its commitment to tackling cattle rustling and other criminal activities across the state while ensuring the safety of lives and property.
