
The Yobe State Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn baby girl and arrested two suspected motorcycle thieves in separate operations carried out across the state.
The command disclosed that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to tackle crime and strengthen security in different communities within the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, officers attached to the A Division in Damaturu rescued a newborn baby girl who was found abandoned in Kallalawa Village on Sunday.
The police said the baby, believed to be about one day old, was immediately taken to the Special Baby Care Unit of the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where medical personnel confirmed that she was in stable condition.
Authorities added that the child was later handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care, while investigations had commenced to identify the mother and uncover the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.

In another operation, police operatives arrested a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Yusai Mamman, for allegedly stealing a red KASEA motorcycle belonging to a resident of Kaliyari Fulani Settlement in Bursari Local Government Area.
The motorcycle owner had reportedly parked the bike near a shop along Gwiokura Road before it was stolen.
The police explained that operatives launched a surveillance operation after receiving the complaint and later intercepted the suspect while riding the stolen motorcycle along Jakusko Road.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, while police said investigations were ongoing ahead of his prosecution.
Similarly, officers attached to the Fika Division also arrested another suspect, Mohammed Garba, in connection with the theft of a red Boxer motorcycle valued at about ₦400,000.
Police said the motorcycle owner had conveyed a passenger from Maiduwa Village to Ngalda Town on May 23 when the suspect allegedly dispossessed him of the motorcycle.
The command noted that the suspect was arrested following coordinated efforts involving neighbouring communities, security operatives, and local vigilante groups in Gulani Local Government Area.
According to the police, the complainant identified the suspect, who also reportedly confessed to the offence.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Jibrin, directed officers to sustain the crackdown on criminal activities and commended residents as well as vigilante groups for supporting security agencies with useful information.
