The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists accused of terrorising residents in the Apapa, Ijora, and Badia areas of the state.
According to the command, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit carried out the operation after receiving credible intelligence about the activities of the group.
The police said the operation began with the arrest of 25-year-old Abubakar Ayomide, also known as “Garbazin,” who allegedly led officers to the gang’s hideout. Four other suspects identified as Tanko Yusuf, 23, Ahmed Abibu, 24, Abubakar Shafi, 23, and Fatai Mohammed, 25, were subsequently arrested.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi disclosed that the principal suspect admitted to being a member of the Aiye Confraternity and has provided investigators with information to assist ongoing efforts to apprehend other members of the group.

During a search of the hideout, officers recovered a battle axe, a UTC knife, two additional knives, a hammer, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, and items believed to be criminal charms, along with other exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, warned cultists and other criminal elements operating in Lagos to abandon their illegal activities or face prosecution.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations aimed at combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state. The commissioner also encouraged residents to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them that all reports would be treated confidentially.
Investigations are ongoing, while efforts continue to arrest other suspected members of the criminal gang before the suspects are charged in court.
